David M. Buisán
I’ve seen video trailers as ads for books and comics before, but here’s something that’s new to me, and I think fairly original. Illustrator David M. Buisán has created a promo reel of sorts for his illustration portfolio, similar to an animator’s promo reel, but with static images set to music. It definitely makes the […] http://bit.ly/GwARk
Ella ja Aleksi – Yöjuna Rovaniemelle
I know nothing about this, other than having found it on my friend JvB’s Facebook page and being utterly smitten by its adorableness. The voice of the kid singing: priceless! And I can’t stand kids!
If you know any details about it, please add them to the comments below.
UPDATE: I just found this on Last.fm:

New RRP UI In The Wings...
I still have a couple little touch-ups to do, then we have to rebuild the Mac side of things, so it’s a little ways away, but here’s the new Rough Rider Pro UI. Operationally, the plug-in will be un-altered in any way. Only the graphics have changed. Expect this next week at some point. http://bit.ly/QQ31E
Flashback: Playable Pac-Man Costume
October graces us tomorrow, so of course the supreme maker holiday Halloween is on the mind. Here’s another flashback from our Make: Halloween Special Edition, which came out in August of 2007. Russell Luzinski came up with this sweet playable arcade Pac-Man costume, and there’s no doubt he was the life of the party. Check out the full tutorial below. And for more Halloween DIY...

Pictorial Highlights from IDSA Project Infusion
We’re back from a few days in Miami Beach attending the IDSA 2009 Project Infusion conference. Here’s a handful of pictures that touch on the breadth of the experience. More pics in the Flickr pool.
Although there was no giant robot at the Core77 party (see 2007) it was still a great time, with a lot of intense conversation, some of the “No, I love you, man!” variety.

Pointer Footwear
During a recent visit to the Shoreditch area of London, I had the chance to drop in on the five-year-old brand Pointer Footwear. Housed in a space with both Edwin and Carhartt, founder Gareth Skewis—a well-connected professional that started his career skating in the streets of Johannesburg—now helms the growing label. His office, cluttered (in the best sense) with original artworks, Pointer...
Free, Native Linux Plug-ins, and How to Use Them...
It’s simply stunning some of the terrific instrument and effect plug-ins available that are now free and open source – yes, free as in freedom, not just freeware. I had commented in the past something along the lines of, “boy, wouldn’t it be great if this now meant, say, a Linux port?” and then […] http://bit.ly/talJB

Ponoko hits the mainstream
It’s always good practice to note the moment when a cutting-edge design issue makes its way in to a mainstream business magazine. The online, laser-cut-on-demand service, Ponoko.com, is on the cover of Inc. this month.
Here’s a taste from the feature:

Pairings between sportswear giants and hip hop stars regularly make style blog headlines these days, but few come from a genuine partnership like the latest collaboration between Nike, Dizzee Rascal and his longtime collaborator and digital distributor 7 Digital’s creative director Ben Drury. First Look: QuickBooks 2010 for Mac
For years, people used to bash Macs by noting the absence of what was viewed to be an absolute essential application. Though there’s still a hold-out or two (we’re still waiting for AutoCAD for Mac, despite hints to the contrary), things are much better these days.
No application, perhaps, embodies this change more than Intuit’s QuickBooks. […]

Don't have a chair? Grow your own.
Almost 100 years ago, John Krubsack made this amazing chair by growing a bunch of box elder trees together. What makes this extra special is that he figured out how to graft the trees together as they were growing, so that they naturally formed all of the joints to hold it together. The whole thing took about 11 years to grow. In this age of rapid prototyping, I can hardly imagine spending...
